Chanakya, also known as Kautilya or Vishnugupta, was an ancient Indian statesman, philosopher, and economist who lived around 4th century BCE. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest thinkers and strategists in Indian history.

Chanakya was a chief advisor to the Mauryan emperor Chandragupta Maurya and played a key role in the establishment of the Mauryan Empire, one of the largest and most powerful empires in ancient India. He is credited with writing the Arthashastra, an influential treatise on statecraft, economics, and military strategy.

The Arthashastra covers a wide range of topics, including foreign policy, taxation, law enforcement, trade, and diplomacy. Chanakya's ideas on governance and administration have had a lasting impact on Indian political thought and continue to be studied and applied in modern times.

Chanakya is also known for his sharp wit and wisdom, which is reflected in his aphorisms and proverbs. His sayings, such as "A person should not be too honest. Straight trees are cut first and honest people are screwed first," continue to be widely quoted in India today.
